Home Projects Material estimator

Flooring Calculator

Estimate square footage, boxes, and waste for flooring projects.

How this tool works

Estimate flooring materials before buying planks, boards, tile, or sheets. CasaLabs calculators keep assumptions visible, use source-backed formulas, and avoid storing personal information.

How to use it

  1. Measure room length and width in feet.
  2. Enter a waste allowance for cuts, layout, and mistakes.
  3. Enter the square feet covered by one flooring box.

Formula

Boxes = ceiling((room length × room width × (1 + waste percent)) ÷ box coverage).

Example

A 12 ft by 10 ft room with 10% waste is 132 sq ft. If each box covers 20 sq ft, buy 7 boxes.

FAQ

How much extra flooring should I buy?

Many projects add a waste allowance for cuts and mistakes. The right percentage depends on material, room shape, and layout.
